Here are a few Frequently Asked Questions for someone that has never experienced coaching.
What is a Professional Coach?
Professional Coach is someone that is hired by a client to partner with them on a journey towards professional or personal development.
Through thought provoking questions and dialogue the client is able to identify areas of improvement and thus to action in their lives.
How Does a Coach Differ from a Therapist?
A therapist is a licensed professional that specializes with past traumas and can make diagnoses in order to help their patients. A Professional Coach is trained on speaking to the client’s present situation and future actions that can be taken towards achieving their goals.
What are Typical Topics Discussed?
Topics vary for the individual in regards to what they want to discuss during the sessions. Anything from professional aspirations, interpersonal relationships at work, personal self-improvement, time management skills, etc. can all be topics for discussion.
The sessions are focused around the client and what they want to discuss with no agenda or bias from the coach.
How Long is a Typical Coaching Session?
First, a free 30-minute consultation will take place to understand why the client is interested in coaching. This also ensures the goals are aligned with the services that Meghan can offer.
If the client and coach both decide they would like to move forward and work together, 60-minute sessions will take place once a week or bi-monthly depending on the frequency the client prefers.
How Long is a Coaching Agreement for?
The duration of a coaching agreement can vary, but Meghan recommends a minimum of 3-6 months. The time frame can be tailored based upon the client’s needs.
Is There Work that needs to be Done Between Sessions?
Prior to the first consultation, the client will complete a brief questionnaire so Meghan can better understand the goals for coaching.
After this first session, it is highly recommended that the client assigns themselves work that will help their development.
